LIMBS AKIMBO is a five canvas exploration of the attack on the Nova Music Festival in Israel on October 7, 2023. It is an abstract documentation of the use of sexual violence, murder and kidnapping of civilians. It is theater, presented as abstract paintings with meaning but without dialogue.
LIMBS AKIMBO - ACT I (The Nova Festival) is a 36"x36" acrylic on canvas. The colors are vivid, the energy is high. There is a celebratory breeze in the air.
LIMBS AKIMBO - ACT II -(the attack on the concertgoers) is a 36" x 36" acrylic on canvas. The colors are the colors of the current war against the Jews. The brushstrokes are short and frantic, symbolizing armed affronts, violent and sexual, against unsuspecting peace festival attendees.
"LIMBS AKIMBO ACT III (Shani Louk) is a 36' x 36" acrylic on canvas. It memorializes the death of Shani Louk, a concertgoer who was raped, murdered and her body tossed carelessly in the back of a pickup truck, to be paraded around Gaza. Her legs were folded beneath her body, a searing vision encapsulated by the title, LIMBS AKIMBO. It also harkens back to grainy B/W photos of Holocaust victims.
"LIMBS AKIMBO-ACT IV (the kidnapped)" is a 36" x 36" mixed media on canvas. It symbolizes the plight of the kidnapped, living (?) in a labyrinth of horrors, in tunnels, far underground. A year later, the blue sky of their lives is but a distant memory.
"LIMBS AKIMBO - ACT V (THE AFTERMATH)" is a 36' x 36" acrylic on canvas. It symbolizes the Festival, now frozen in time, and remembered by Jews worldwide as a cautionary tale. If any Jew is unsafe, we are all unsafe.
