Subtractive Painting, or Painting by Reduction, is a style of painting that begins with an all-over painted canvas. The painter then selectively edits out parts thet don't want with chalk paint, revealing an image that was there all along, but didn't stand out. The painter then embellishes to complete the image, sometimes with chalk marker.
